If you have ever bought a laptop before, I’m sure you have faced this dilemma. Should I buy a gaming laptop or a regular one will do for most of my work? Well, unfortunately, there is no one answer to this question.
Before you buy smart electronics, I will tell you the main differences between a gaming laptop and a regular one!
#1. Kind of processor used…
Ordinary laptops are designed to do less demanding activities like running Microsoft software and surfing the web, and hence do not need particularly powerful CPUs. High-end gaming, as well as other processor-intensive applications like video editing and software compilation, need a large number of logical operations to be computed quickly. High-performance CPUs may help with this.
#2. RAM differences…
Gaming laptops contain between 8 GB and 16 GB of RAM, whereas regular laptops have between 4 GB and 8 GB of RAM. Normal laptops contain less RAM than gaming laptops since they are designed to run less demanding programs like video players, web browsers, and light business applications that do not need a large amount of data to be stored in memory.
#3. Laptop graphics cards…
Regular laptops often don’t have any extra graphic cards; they have integrated graphics cards. Whereas gaming laptops need extra GPU juice for rendering games and high-performing tasks. Dedicated GPUs are far quicker and better at processing complicated graphics-related data than integrated graphics cards.
#4. Cooling system…
Both gaming laptops and regular laptops feature cooling devices to maintain the inside of the laptop at the proper temperature. Gaming laptops feature more sophisticated cooling systems than regular laptops. This is because they do not create a lot of heat in their interior; the processor generates the majority of the heat.
#5. Keyboard design…
Backlit keyboards are more seen on gaming laptops than on regular laptops. This is because most users, such as businesspeople and college students, would not find it useful. Gamers, on the other hand, need RGB backlit keyboards. Backlit keyboards make it easier for gamers to discover and hit the correct keys without having to look away from the screen.
#6. Aesthetics…
Normal laptop chassis is often maintained flat and basic to give them a more professional appearance that is acceptable for professional contexts like offices and schools. Gaming laptops are known for having more flamboyant chassis designs that attract attention. They feature bold logos, LED illumination on the body panels, big air vents that mimic racing car grills, patterns, and stripes on their casings.
#7. Finally, Portability…
Gaming laptops are heavier and smaller than regular laptops. They feature fewer components, like fans, a specialized graphics card, and external connections, as a result. They also have a smaller battery due to their high efficiency. Gaming laptops have come a long way from their days as hefty briefcase-sized computers. However, because of the additional technology they carry, they can’t match the mobility of conventional laptops.
Final Words
There are some other differences like with battery, port numbers, add-ons, monitor size among others. The choice is ultimately yours. If you need a sleek laptop to do official tasks, use it for entertainment, carry it everywhere, a normal laptop should be your choice. And if you do high demanding tasks such as gaming, video editing, 2D/3D modeling, you will need a gaming laptop. In that case, you are sacrificing portability and battery!
